Finalists' FAQs
Q: I have not yet received my finalist packet.
A: Finalist packets were mailed Oct. 30. If you do not receive your packet by Nov. 13, please contact Adriane Koenig: adrianek@rosengrp.com, 800.432.7238, ext. 206
Q: Will I lose my chance to win if I cannot bring my artwork to Philadelphia?
A: No. You will not be penalized or disqualified for not bringing your artwork. There will not be further judging/scoring of artwork at the NICHE Awards Display. The display is an opportunity to expose your work to the buyers, media and other visitors at the Buyers Market of American Craft.
If you cannot travel to Philadelphia, you may make arrangements to mail/ship a framed 8" x 10" photo of the finalist piece by contacting adrianek@rosengrp.com. If you would like your photo back, you must provide an envelope with appropriate postage or a FedEx or UPS shipper account number. (We cannot assume the cost of return postage.)
Q: I no longer have the piece that was selected as a finalist, but I will be in Philadelphia and want to bring something for the NICHE Awards Display.
A: If the original finalist piece is not available, we will accept a piece similar in size, shape and design for display. You may also display a framed photo of the finalist piece (maximum size of photo: 8 x 10 inches).
Q: Where is the NICHE Awards Display located inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center?
A: The NICHE Awards Display will be located on the 2nd floor Concourse area near the entrance to Exhibit Hall B. Buyers Market staff will be stationed at the display area during the designated drop-off & pick-up times to sign artwork in and out.
Q: What are the drop-off and pick-up times for the NICHE Awards Display?
A: Artwork MUST be hand-delivered during one of the following times:
Thursday, Feb. 11, from 9:00 a.m. to noon
Thursday, Feb. 11, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 12, from 8:30-10:00 a.m.
Artwork must be collected:
Friday, Feb. 12, following the NICHE Awards ceremony, at approximately 8 p.m.
or
Monday, Feb. 15, between 10:00 a.m. and noon
Thousands of gallery owners and store buyers visit the NICHE Display throughout the duration of the Buyers Market; we strongly recommend leaving your work until Monday, if possible.
Please be patient, you may have to wait in line to sign your work in and out of the display.
Q: Is the NICHE Awards Display secure?
A: 24-hour security will be assigned to the display area for the duration of the exhibition. Participants display their works at their own risk. Please contact your insurer if you have questions.
Q: Can someone else drop-off and/or pick-up my artwork for me?
A: Yes. You may assign an alternate to drop-off and/or pick-up your artwork. They must bring a letter signed by you, and they must sign the work in and out of the display.
Q: Do I need to bring my own fixtures to display my work?
A: We will have locked glass cases to display work and hard wall surfaces to mount hanging pieces. Mannequins WILL NOT be provided. Individual pedestals WILL NOT be provided. If your piece requires special mounting or display items, you should bring those fixtures with you.
Q: Do you have a dolly I can use?
A: No. Handcarts, etc., will not be available. Please provide your own if needed.
Q: Is there special parking at the Convention Center for dropping off & picking up?
A: There is no special area assigned specifically for artists to drop-off/pick-up their artwork for the NICHE Awards Display. It is up to each individual to find appropriate parking during his or her visit to the Buyers Market.
Q: Do I use the loading dock to deliver/pick up my work for the Display?
A: No. The loading dock will be accessible to Buyers Market Exhibitors ONLY. (BMAC Exhibitors have loading dock passes & Exhibitor Badges allowing them access to the dock & exhibit halls on Thursday & Monday). If you are not a BMAC Exhibitor, you will have to carry your artwork into the building using the 12th & Arch Street entrance. You will find a passenger elevator and an escalator near the entrance. Take either to the second floor.
Q: Am I considered an "Exhibitor" if my work is displayed in the NICHE Awards Display?
A: As a NICHE Awards finalist, you are invited to the Buyers Market as a "Guest of the NICHE Awards," and you will receive a Guest Badge. The Guest Pass Request Form was included with your finalist packet.
Some finalists are also Buyers Market of American Craft (BMAC) Exhibitors, in which case they have an Exhibitor Badge for the BMAC show. Only those artists or vendors who purchase booth space for the BMAC show are "Exhibitors."
Q: Why do I need a pass for the Buyers Market of American Craft (BMAC)?
A: The Buyers Market is closed to the public. It is wholesale to the trade only. Only those wearing "Exhibitor," "Buyer," "Trade," "Media" or "Guest" badges may enter the Exhibit Halls of the BMAC.
